Can I get the same hydration benefits of water (or better) by drinking 8 glasses of green tea instead of water?
“Everyone” says you must have 8 glasses/cups of water a day to stay optimally hydrated and help your skin stay moisturized (from the inside out).
I have always thought that with natural juices, milk, green tea, and even food— you are provided with the hydration (plus vitamins) that you need. Is the hydration potential of water that much greater than green tea?
The reason I ask is that I have EXTREMELY (embarrassingly) dry skin and want to do everything I can to stay hydrated. Plus, I am a recovering salt junkie.
I drink a lot of green tea every day (which has antioxidants- also good for skin), but my friends said that it is a “diuretic” and does not compare to drinking water.
So my question is: Can I get the same hydration benefits of water (or better) by drinking 8 glasses of green tea instead of water? (I like my tea bc it has a little caffine 1/4 of the amount of a cup of coffee)
No. distilled water is purely H2O. It functions to carry out waste and transport nutrients which it cannot do if water molecules are carrying molecules of green tea. Green tea is very good, but it must be consumed in addition to water, not in place of water.
